Norton antivirus 2011 open port

I tried to a the picture here but was told I needed Adobe Flash. I have it and it is enabled in my add-ons. The thread is:. If we are looking at the same pictures, it is indeed TCPview, which is the first link given to you by the previous poster. The screenshots in that thread are from TCPView, which is the program you can get from Bombastus' first link to Technet. I downloaded it and I have lots of open ports. These are not showing in GRC. I think I understand most of them, like Thunderbird.

All the rest were. My messages are being truncated! And I can't edit! Wanted to say I understood most like Thunderbird. You'd be even safer if you were behind a router if you aren't already. Then no unwanted traffic would even reach your software firewall. I know what they are but I don't know what they do;. I thought you used those only if you had more than one computer in the home.

The more I think I know, the more I realize how little I know. If you could enlighten me, I'd be grateful! They are useful if you have more than one computer, to share the internet connection, yes, but they are also useful and important for security. They have a hardware firewall that prevents unsolicited traffic from even reaching your computer in the first place.

If we're talking security, I'd say a router is no 1, ahead of software security programs, when it comes to protection. It acts like a barrier between the Internet and your computer, filtering out attacks and unsolicited traffic. Back to top. SheriLynn Contributor 4. Reg: Jul Kudos 0. Can someone point me towards it, please, Thanks for help! I have the same question 0. Bombastus Norton Fighter I have looked under General Rules, but I don't see any numbered ports there.

I should mention that I am still using NIS Thank you for any help with this problem. If you are using a browser such as Internet Explorer to take a test online, those ports are already configured. If you are just logging into a website for the test, you should not have to do anything special as far as the firewall is concerned. The site may require that scripting in your browser be enabled, but that would be a browser configuration - and if you have IE Internet Options set to their defaults, the browser, too, is probably already set to work correctly.

Here is a screenshot of the default firewall rules for IE in the Norton Firewall, showing those two ports are already allowed:. Thank you! I was hoping it was something easy like this. Back to top. Reg: Jan Kudos 0.
