Installing winxp without cd or floppy

Today I've bought a 2. Will reply back. OK I've finally got it working a few days ago. If you are using an USB case, you're just wasting your time! All I had to do was I used a P2 mhz and booted with a win98 se bootdisk. Install XP using the winnt. And it worked! All this sounds really simple but it took me a lot of time and googling to figure it out Thanks guys for the suggestions!

Because of the age of the laptop i've been trying my own homemade nlite versions of XP, with zero success. The laptop doesn't have any flash drive support, and cant boot off usb devices.

I don't have the doc for it either. I was told i could install windows on another computer, uninstall every single device from the device manager and transfer the hard drive, tried that too, didnt work. So i need to know how i can do it.

Is there any software that can prepare a windows XP installtion on one computer to be transfered to another computer. Or a better way to install off the hard drive? Chouji , May 4, What about an external floppy, or installing via the network?

Joshua , May 4, Thanks Andres, but that one only works up to the xp install. For full access please Register. Is it possible? I have just bought a compaq armada M for a song, a nice small light laptop of a couple of years old, but the OS is all messed up and needs reinstalling, when I bought it, it came with a external USB CD drive, but this is not bootable.

I do have a special IDE cable that allows me to mount a laptop hdd to a desktop mobo, and I was wondering if by doing this, it might be possible to copy over all needed setup files, and somehow get it to run the installation once it was back in the lappy Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks Chris. You'd still need to be able to boot it off something to get to the setup files.

Put the hard drive back in the laptop, boot to Windows and run the setup from the CD folder and point it to install on the free space.

Now this would give you a dual boot setup with the old and new Windows. There would be various ways you could go from here but it could get a little technical depending on the final setup you wanted.

McTavish ,. Changing Partitions isn't a problem, and I've dual booted for many years going back to two 98's with a boot manager so i know most of the problems associated with them. That's why I was wondering if after the setup files have been copied to the hdd with it connected to the desktop, there were any ways to make the hdd boot into DOS? I have never had to do this before but with no floppy or bootable cd I need the start up files to load from the hdd. Pingbacks are Off. Refbacks are on.
